First of all, I must give a HUGE hat tip to Troy over at
TT & DB Photos for sharing with me the
Art Supply Warehouse Express web site, and the
Creative Mark Carolina Deluxe Studio Easel that I have had my eye on for 66% off Retail.
CHA CHING BABY! Now that the important stuff is out of the way, let me begin my post...
Let me start first with a little background. As most of my regular readers know, I had a really awful marriage, which produced an ex-wife not short of devil spawn. For most of our marriage, and the entire time after our divorce, I put my entire life on hold because of her. Mostly due to the fact that I was practicing the fine art of self preservation. I am not complaining, just being factual. Since my ex-wife's death, all of the hard work I did in the self improvement vain is now blossuming.
One of the things I had put one hold for the last 13 years was my creativity. My music suffered and my recently discovered abilities in art were repressed. Frankly, it is pretty hard to be creative when you are living "Hand-to-Mouth." Now that my life has changed for the better, it is like my creativity has popped the cork, and burst the dam wide open.
There was, however, one defining moment which caused the flood waters to gush forth, and that was when I took brush in hand for the first time and painted the sun on "Big Sister's" bedroom wall. I can not begin to explain how it felt to control the paint with the small brush, and the joy at discovering I could manipulate the paint into the vision from my mind's eye, and translate it to the wall. I have goose bumps just thinking about it again.
Since that day, my mind has been flooded with images. Photographs I have taken, and the artwork they have become at my hand. It is as though someone has flipped an invisible switch in my head, and I once again posses the eye of an artist. These visions have haunted me to the point that if I do not act on their urging I will explode!
Between now and the time my easel arrives I must clear a large spot in the basement by hauling all of my possessions that can handle temperature changes to my storage unit. Once that has been accomplished. I will begin with the Spiderman mural for "Little Man's" bedroom. I will be painting it on a large piece of luan-ply then attaching it to his wall when I am done. I am excited and scared all at the same time. Only I, the Incurable Savant, would be stupid enough to bite off a hunk that would choke a whale for my first project. Hey, if you are going to goof, goof with style, I always say!
One parting thought...
"Where there is fear, there is no creativity."
