Summer Fun on the Road
I was just reading some new blogs and happened on Human Writes he has several very funny stories, one of which put me in mind of a similar one of my own. I will very soon be adding him to my blog roll. Furthermore, I am being a bit lazy since I cut and pasted it from the comment section of his blog so I didn't have to type it all over again.
When I was a kid my family lived in Michigan, and my Mother's parents lived in Minnesota. The only vacation we ever got to go on was to my grandparent's house. Since we didn't have much money we always made the 27.5 hour drive, one way just to get there.
My little brother (about 5 years old at the time) every time we traveled he started whining 30 minutes into the trip about how thirsty he was. Mom and Dad would take it as long as they could, then give him something to drink. The reason they waited was that 15 minutes after he drank whatever liquid they gave him he would start whining that he had to pee.
This summer was no different than any other trip we had ever taken. It was very hot and our brown Dodge didn't have air-conditioning so we were riding with all the windows down. It was very muggy so my little brother was at the point of tears when they finally gave him something to drink, while we sped down the Chicago beltway.
You guessed it, before too long he was crying that he had to pee. My mom always had an old coffee can in the car so that we wouldn't have to stop every time the little guy needed to relieve himself. (You could do that when you had boys and there was no such things as a car seats, or seat belt laws.) He stood in on the floor in the back seat, little man bared whizzing away. Once he finished he handed the can back to my Mother. No sooner had he gotten himself seated again back through the rear window came all of his whiz at 75 MPH, covering him instantly. Then the tears came, but not for long, soon we were all laughing so hard we cried.
